Family Activities in Edmond

July 10, 2015 9:21 am

Edmond, which bills itself as “a great place to grow,” has a number of activities throughout the year that are perfect for newcomers and lifelong residents alike. For the homeowners in any of our neighborhoods, these activities are just a short drive away, and offer great opportunities for family fun. Here are a few summer favorites.

Heard on Hurd

This summer is the perfect time to get outside for Heard on Hurd. This event actually runs March-October, on the third Saturday of each month. Downtown Edmond is transformed into a festival celebrating local music, local food, and local shops.

The event features live music, food trucks, and popup shops along Edmond’s historic downtown district.

GloRun 5k and 1-mile fun run

In its fourth year, the GloRun 5k benefits The Recovery Center, a local detox facility. This year’s race is being held at Mitch Park on August 29th. The night-time race features black lights and a painting booth for runners looking for a bit more ‘glo’.

UCO Jazz Lab

The UCO Jazz Lab hosts a steady stream of Blues, Jazz, and Soul performers all year long.  This summer’s highlights include a Barbra Streisand & Janis Joplin tribute show on August 9, and the fifth annual Summer Jazz Camp in early July. The Jazz Lab also hosts the Faculty Artist Concert Series, featuring performances by the faculty of the School of Music.

An Evening with Thomas Jefferson

For an educational evening with the family, join the UCO Laboratory of History Museum’s Evening with Thomas Jefferson. Steven Edenbo, who has been performing as Jefferson for more than 15 years, will present, and entertain questions from the audience. This free event will be held August 7 and marks the celebration of the museum’s 100th anniversary.
